India to Be BMW Motorrad’s global hub for small bikes; already tied up with TVS Motor Company for manufacturing the G310R

BMW Motorrad is preparing to get a strong foothold in Indian two-wheeler market, where two-wheeler business is growing rapidly in recent times. For that the German two-wheeler manufacturer has already made partnership with TVS Motor Company, and BMW G310R is being manufactured in the TVS’s Hosur plant in India. While BMW Motorrad is eyeing to grab India’s growing premium motorcycle space, it is also targeting to make the country its global hub.

BMW Motorrad plans to manufacture and export bikes from India to the markets like Europe and US. The BMW G310R is expected to launch in Indian market sometime around February or March, 2017. The bike was displayed at 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, and garnered attention.

With the G310R being manufactured at India, BMW Motorrad will be able to keep its pricing aggressive in the highly competitive Indian market. The company is also developing an adventure tourer version of G310R. The BMW G310 GS is also expected to launch in India, and it is also likely to be manufactured locally to keep its pricing competitive like G310R.

Speaking about BMW Motorrad’s plan about India Mr. Frank Schloeder, president, BMW India has said, that the company has big expectations from G310R. He also confirmed that, made-in-India G310R will be sold in countries like Germany, US and several other countries in Europe. BMW Motorrad is planning to open official dealerships in all the large metro cities across India soon.

BMW G310R is powered by a 313cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed transmission. The engine is capable to churn out 34 PS of peak power at 9.500 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The bike is likely to deliver a fuel efficiency of 36.05 kmpl and top speed of it could be around 144 kmph.
