Hyundai Verna competed with 15 cars to win the award; beat vehicles like Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Nexon
Hyundai Verna received another feather in its crown. The stylish and upmarket midsize sedan has won the prestigious ‘Indian Car Of The Year’ (ICOTY) 2018 award. The South Korean sedan won the 13th edition of the coveted award competing with 15 other tough rivals that were launched in the country in recent past.
The other rivals included Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, Jeep Compass, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Renault Captur etc. Among the total 16 competitors, 9 cars made to the final list and Hyundai Verna came out as winner. However, the sedan received tough competition from Maruti Suzuki Dzire that has become one of the bestselling cars of the country within short span after its arrival couple of months ago.

Hyundai Verna scored 118 point on its way to win ICOTY 2018 award, while the Maruti Suzuki Dzire scored 117. This clearly shows that the popular Maruti sedan was very close. Third spot was grabbed by Jeep Compass, the iconic American SUV manufacturer’s most affordable model in domestic market.
A total of 18 jury members decided the fate of Hyundai Verna on 4th December, 2017. These 16 cars were judged on various parameters. These included pricing, performance, styling, safety, features, comfort, practicality, technical innovation, value for money. Suitability of the cars in Indian driving conditions and for the Indian drivers were also among the parameters.

The sedan gets a 1.6-litre petrol engine and a 1.6-litre diesel motor. It gets both manual and automatic gearbox options with both petrol and diesel engines. The Verna competes with tough rivals like Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Skoda Rapid.
