Hyundai Tucson AWD comes in place of the erstwhile GLS FWD trim; specification remains same

Hyundai has launched the AWD variant of its Tucson SUV in India at a price tag of Rs. 15.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The South Korean auto major brings this model in place of the erstwhile top-end GLS FWD model that was discontinued silently in the country few days ago. The Tucson AWD is based on the GLS trim and it carries the same specification as the FWD model.

The SUV comes with the same AWD system that is available in other global markets as well. This system is an on-demand technology and it can be locked to deliver the power in 50:50 ratios to both the front and rear wheels. Tucson made entry to Indian market in November last year and introduction of the AWD certainly enhances its appeal further to the true-blue SUV enthusiasts.

The On Demand 4WD system automatically employs Rear Wheel Traction Control by assessing the road conditions. It delivers maximum traction on any type of surface and improves stability during cornering. The automaker claims that this intelligent system distributes power to all the four wheels when needed, without driver’s intervention.

On the powertrain front, the Hyundai Tucson AWD gets the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine as the Tucson GLS FWD model. Power and torque output of the engine is same. This engine under the hood of the AWD variant is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission and it churns out 182 bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of peak torque from 1,750 rpm.

Tucson is available with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
