Hyundai Santro (AH2) will replace the Eon hatchback to become the most affordable car from the Korean auto major, will launch in India on October 23

It is being said that the pre-bookings for the new Hyundai Santro (AH2) will commence on October 10. This will be a day after the special media preview of the new car at the company’s production facility near Chennai.

The new Hyundai Santro (AH2) will launch in India on October 23. It will replace the Eon in the carmaker’s product portfolio for India. The 2018 Hyundai Santro will have a tallboy architecture and will be based on the old i10’s platform. Of course, the platform will have suitable revisions to comply with the future safety norms.

Powering the Hyundai Santro will be a new version of the 1.1-litre iRDE petrol engine that powered the old i10. The engine will get several revisions for the new model. For starters, it will be BSVI-compliant. It is also likely to offer a higher fuel efficiency and performance. For the i10, the engine offered 68 PS and 99 Nm.

Transmission options for the new Hyundai Santro will include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The Santro will become the first Hyundai car in India to offer an AMT. The same transmission is likely to be used for the next-generation Hyundai Elite i20 and Hyundai Grand i10.

The new Hyundai Santro will offer spacious interior with modern features like a touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is the same 5-inch unit that made its debut on the recently unveiled Hyundai Elantra facelift. The new car will also offer features like electric windows, central locking, ABS, dual front airbags, speed-sensing door lock, impact-sensing door unlock, and a speed alert system.

The new Hyundai Santro (AH2) is likely to have a starting price of Rs 4 lakh. It will go on to rival models like the Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Celerio, Tata Tiago, and Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT.
