Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition features dual-tone body paint with matte grey appearance and shiny red accents

Hyundai has been on the headlines for introducing the global Kona B-segment crossover in the last few days. The South Korean auto major has wasted no time in revealing a special edition based on the Iron Man theme. Taking design cues from Marvel’s Iron Man, the changes incorporated on the styling front has made us think that it is just a design study but excitingly it is a production model indeed.

The most visually striking modification is the appliance of dual-tone body paint with matte grey appearance and shiny red accents inspired by the Star Industries’ armoured suit but the eagle-eyed viewers would not fail to notice the leaner side mirror caps and of course the retractable door handles.

More surprise on its way as abnormal for any typical limited edition, the Kona Iron Man version is 40 mm wider than the standard crossover and it rides on a bigger 19-inch bidirectional wheels. It is applied with Iron Man’s mask in the middle and the fatter off-roading tyres enhance the overall appeal further.

On the outside, the Kona Iron Man Edition features headlamps with restyled LED configuration and the bonnet gets adorned with gold accent to bring the crossover closer to the superhero. So what is the connection that Kona has with Iron Man after all? The actual relation is not the Marvel’s comic hero itself but the triathlon Ironman World Championship contested in the place called Kona in Hawaii which gave the name for the crossover.

Hyundai is certainly proud of this special edition and thus will be putting it up for display for a month at its Motorstudio Goyang in Seoul, South Korea. The standard Kona will be up for sale in international markets later this year onwards and is confirmed to give birth to a smaller A-segment crossover and an electric version by 2018.

Based on the same platform as the upcoming Kia Stonic, the Kona has all the ingredients for global success. But will it inspire the India-bound subcompact SUV reportedly slated for H1 2019? We do not know any official answers yet!
