Hyundai Kona EV will be the next big launch after the Venue and will become the first electric car from Hyundai Motor India Ltd

Hyundai Motor India Ltd will launch the Kona EV, its first-ever electric car on 9th next month, which means the new model will come in just a few weeks after the introduction of the Maruti Vitara Brezza-rivalling Hyundai Venue and likely to be priced at around Rs. 22-25 Lakh. Here are 5 more things to know about the upcoming electric-powered SUV.

1. The Indian version will have a lower-spec battery pack

Internationally, the Hyundai Kona EV is available in two versions. The higher-spec version comes with a 64 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 204 PS and 395 Nm. It offers a driving range of 546 km as per NEDC scale.

The lower-spec version comes with a battery pack rated at 39.2 kWh and has a driving range of 345 km as per NEDC scale. It offers a maximum power of 136 PS and 395 Nm. India will get the lower-spec model as it should help the company price the EV slightly more competitively.

2. Will be available in limited numbers

The Hyundai Kona EV will be sold in India in really limited numbers. The company is targeting a monthly sale of 50 units, while it could consider establishing an export hub at its Sripeumbudur facility in the near future. In India, the Kona EV will be pitted against the upcoming Nissan Leaf electric hatchback and the MG eZS.

3. Can be charged completely in 9 hours 35 minutes

The Hyundai Kona EV is equipped with a 7.2 kW on-board charger that can charge the vehicle completely in 6 hours and 10 minutes. The user can also charge the electric SUV to 80 per cent in just 54 minutes using a 100 kW fast charger.

4. Will Have BlueLink Connectivity Option Like Venue

Like the Hyundai Venue, the Hyundai Kona will be available with the company’s BlueLink connected apps suite. This will make the electric SUV the second model in Hyundai’s range to feature the connected car technology.

5. Will have 10.25-touchscreen infotainment unit

The Hyundai Kona EV will offer a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The user will also benefit from satellite navigation, automatic climate control, eCall emergency response system and more.
