The Hyundai HND 14 ‘Carlino’ concept’s production version could be called the Styx and will launch in April to rival Maruti Vitara Brezza

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest selling carmaker, will launch a new model April 2019 that could go on sale as the Styx. Until now, this model has been known as the Hyundai HND 14 after its concept model that was shown at the Auto Expo 2018.

The HND 14 was in turn based on the Carlino concept from the Auto Expo 2016. The launch of the new compact SUV will be the second all-new model from the company after the launch of the Santro this month.

The production-spec Hyundai HND 14 will follow the company’s latest design language and should look like a mini- Santa fe. We expect it to have an angular cascading effect grille and the Composite Light lighting setup. This means that the new model will have LED DRLs at the hood level and low-set projector headlamps. We are pretty sure that the new car will look more modern than the Maruti Vitara Brezza and even the Ford EcoSport.

In the side profile, the production-spec Hyundai HND 14 will look like a mini Hyundai Creta with a similar roofline, a rising window line and a large greenhouse. These are some design elements that will be seen on the 2019 Hyundai Grand i10 as well.

The interior is likely to be made up of high quality materials. Going by Hyundai’s practice of offering premium features in all its offerings, the productions-spec Hyundai HND 14 could be the most loaded car in its class.

The production-spec Hyundai HND 14 will be available with 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine. The base model will be powered by a BSVI version of the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine while the top variant will get a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged direct injection engine with a maximum power of 120 PS and a peak torque of 171 Nm. The diesel variant will be equipped with a new BSVI-compliant 1.5-litre motor that outputs 116 PS and 250 Nm.

Prices of the Hyundai HND 14 should start around Rs 6 lakh for the base model and go all the way to Rs 9.5 lakh for the fully loaded diesel engine variant. Stay tuned to Gaadiwaadi for more on the HND14 aka Carlino aka Styx.
