Hyundai Elite i20 gets six airbags and AT as in the first generation model; the six airbags are available in the top trim Asta (O)

Hyundai rejuvenated its very popular premium hatchback Elite i20 with new safety features and automatic transmission. The top spec Asta (O) trim gets six airbags, and the 1.4 litre petrol engine also comes mated to a four speed automatic transmission. The first generation model of the car was available with both the six airbags and automatic transmission features. But the South Korean auto major reduced the airbags to two only in the second generation model.

In the sub 10 lakh pricing range the hatchbacks like Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Fiat Punto Evo etc come bearing dual front airbags. The all new Ford Figo is the only hatchback in the segment with six airbags, therefore the new Figo comes pretty safer and taking the game up. To make the Elite i20 more appealing to the customers, now Hyundai has introduced six airbags to the car. The car also comes with projector headlamps with cornering function, 7 inch touchscreen AV navigation etc.

Apart from the six airbags, Hyundai also introduced a four speed automatic gearbox to the Elite i20, which is mated to the 1.4 litre petrol engine. Being based on the magna trim only, the car comes missing features like projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, touchscreen infotainment system etc.

The first generation model of the Hyundai Elite i20 was equipped with disc brakes on all the four wheel, but the second generation model was introduced sans two discs at rear, and it still is discontinued. The Hyundai Elite i20 Asta (O) with six airbags are priced at Rs. 7.76 lakhs and Rs. 8.85 lakhs (ex showroom, Delhi), for petrol and diesel models respectively.
