2019 Hyundai Elantra facelift gets a heavily revised exterior and updated interior; likely India launch in the middle of next year

By the closing days of August 2018, Hyundai unveiled a global facelift for its Elantra premium sedan and it can be said as a major departure from its predecessor in any standards. With a tinkle of surprise, the South Korean auto major has pulled off something extremely interesting this time around in the design department.

It could trigger a good reception among Indian customers as the facelifted Elantra is expected to reach showrooms by the middle of next year. The edgier styling may trickle into other cars in Hyundai’s lineup in the near future. However, since Hyundai is notorious for often modernising its vehicle fleet, they might evaluate other options in the next generation Elite i20 and Grand i10.

Its prices across different countries have come by lately and we can expect no big change compared to the existing price range in India. Retailed in as much as nine variants, the Elantra is currently priced at Rs. 13.65 lakh for the base S MT variant and it goes up to Rs. 19.79 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 1.6 SX (O) AT range-topper.

No mechanical changes are expected as the 2019 Hyundai Elantra will be sold in 2.0-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engines. In international market, there is another choice of 1.4-litre turbocharged mill coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic making 128 horsepower.

The major visual tweaks in the updated Elantra are heavily revised front fascia with triangular-shaped headlights, restyled front grille, new bonnet, sportier front fenders, aggressive bumpers on both ends, modified trunk design with updated spoiler, new set of wheels, sharper LED tail lights, and so on.

The interior in the facelifted Hyundai Elantra comprises of updates like five-inch AVN infotainment system with a larger eight-inch display screen and better processor, new switchgear and instrument cluster, overhead cam view for navigation, etc.
