Hyundai Creta Petrol Base E Variant Discontinued; Features Dropped From E+

Hyundai Creta E plus

The current E+ variant is replaced by EX while the S AT 1.6-litre diesel automatic model has been discontinued as well

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) sells the segment-leading Creta in single petrol and two diesel engine choices at prices between Rs. 9.60 lakh and Rs. 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The South Korean auto major will enter the sub-four-metre SUV segment with the Venue scheduled for global debut on April 17 and market launch in mid-May.

In order to avoid cannibalisation, Hyundai has updated the Creta’s range sooner rather than later as we informed a few weeks ago. The main advantage of Creta is the wide price bracket covering the mid- and top-spec sub-4m SUVs, as well as C-segment SUVs, and the scenario could change with the arrival of the Venue without hurting its sales.

Hyundai introduced the E and E+ variants of the Creta to draw the attention of subcompact SUV buyers and they demand months of waiting period by being popular due to their accessible price range. The restructuring of variants meant that the entry-level E variant sold with 1.6-litre petrol engine has been discontinued.

Hyundai Creta Achieves 5 Lakh Sales Milestone In India

As part of the rejig, the E+ sold in 1.6 petrol and 1.4 diesel has been transformed into new E+ variant and the current E+ is opted out for the EX. Additionally, the S AT (automatic) 1.6 diesel has been discontinued as well and it carried a price tag of around Rs. 13.3 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings will be opened for the new variants in April 2019.

This cuts down the automatic transmission offering to just two variants: SX 1.6 AT petrol and SX 1.6 AT diesel. The updated variants obviously lead to the revision of features as well. The new EX petrol and diesel grades get reverse parking camera and adjustable rear seat headrests along with the presence of front fog lamps with Daytime Running Lights.

The EX diesel model gains more features than petrol in the form of five-inch touchscreen audio system with two tweeters, multi-functional steering wheel with mounted controls, front USB charging port, reading lamp and sunglass holder. The new E+ features front power outlet in petrol, manual key in both petrol and diesel as keyless entry and four speakers are part of the omitted package.
