The Creta outsold Grand i10 by 29 units last month to become the second best selling model of Hyundai
Hyundai India sold more units of Creta than Grand i10 in January 2019 after a long time as the sales of the hatchback witnessed minor negative growth last month while the sales of Creta has improved by a good margin. The Creta is also the second best selling Hyundai in January as the company sold 10,314 units compared to 7,631 units in December 2018.
The Grand i10 is in the third position as Hyundai has managed to sell 10,285 units in January 2019 compared to 11,450 units in December 2018. The competition for Creta is going to be intense in the coming months as Nissan launched the Kicks on January 22nd and the much awaited Tata Harrier made its debut on January 23rd.
Both these models have started off well as Nissan has managed to sell more than 1,300 units of Kicks in the first month while Tata sold more than 400 units of Harrier. The sales of both these products will take some time to stabilize as sales numbers will be really good initially. Kia is also planning to launch SP2i by the middle of this year and it is based on the Creta.
Hyundai is already working on the next generation of Grand i10 and it is expected to be introduced by the festival season of this year. Even though the current generation model is near the end of its life cycle, the sales are strong for the hatchback and it is likely to improve with the introduction of the new model, which comes with an evolutionary design theme.
The interior is going to be premium and the dashboard design will be new while the company is going to pack the hatchback with lots of features. The 1.2 L petrol engine is likely to be carried over to the new model, while the diesel engine might not make the cut as it is not so popular among customers and finally the Grand i10 will likely get AMT gearbox.
The best selling model for Hyundai last month was Elite i20 and the facelift model has helped the company to maintain good sales. Overall, Hyundai registered just 1 per cent growth as the company sold 45,803 units in January 2019 compared to 45,508 in the same month last year. The next big launch from Hyundai will be Styx compact SUV.
