2018 Hyundai Santro Spied Testing Again 1

The all-new Hyundai AH2 hatchback is expected to enter India by August 2018 and priced competitively against rivals, likely to be badged as Hyundai Atos/Hyundai Atoz

Hyundai is preparing to introduce a brand new hatchback in the domestic market and it had been confirmed several months ago when the first glimpse of spy images came into existence. With Hyundai continuously testing the hatchback, more details of the model ahead of the launch have arrived online.

Starting with the name, the internally codenamed AH2 could skip the once highly popular Santro moniker instead and go with a new nomenclature as per our reliable source and it could be Hyundai Atos. It has reportedly seen market study being conducted in its close-to-production form.

As for the exterior, the AH2 (Hyundai Atos/Atoz) hatchback or commonly referred to as new Santro for relevance gets black inserts on the rear bumper with single reflector, a chunky tail lamp section, door handles that can be pulled up, sporty character lines, distinctively new fog lamps compared to the Eon and so on.

Inside the cabin, the Hyundai Atos hatchback gains two-tone black and beige theme, multi-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, seats featuring fixed headrest, power window functions behind the gear level, rear wiper set, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, etc.

However, the spy shots also reveal the absence of alloy wheels, engine push start/stop, keyless entry and much-wanted infotainment system as the prototype might not have been a top-spec version.

The mechanical details remain in the shadows and Hyundai might include a factory-sourced CNG kit to expand the buying options for customers. This could directly target fleet aggregators and private owners seeking high efficiency.

Rivalling against the likes of Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Renault Kwid we can expect Hyundai Atos/Atoz a highly competitive price range of around Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom). A launch is reportedly on the cards as early as August 2018.
