HP Lubricants and Leo Burnett collaborated to develop #RoadsThatHonk innovation; launched on NH1 in North India along Jammu-Srinagar Highway

HP Lubricants and Leo Burnett India have joined hands and come up with the world’s first anti-collision vehicle management system for our national highways. The #RoadsThatHonk focusses on safer highways across the country. The whole innovation was launched on NH1 in North India, along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, and is the conceptual idea was designed and executed into reality by Leo Burnett India.

The #RoadsThatHonk works in a way that it adopts SmartLife poles at sharp curves and hairpin bends. They employ advanced networked devices and combine wireless technology, radar systems, and an anti-collision warning system powered by solar PV modules. The SmartLife poles placed on each side of key hairpin bends detect speeds of oncoming vehicles and communicate with each other to caution approaching vehicles on either side with a horn buzz.

The radar signals intimate drivers as the #RoadsThatHonk innovation is hoped to significantly reduce accidents and save several lives every year. If the project succeeds, Leo Burnett wants to expand it along the length and breadth of India. The innovation is achieved by transmitting an electromagnetic wave in 24 GHz frequency range (K-band), and measuring the frequency shift of the reflected electromagnetic wave.

The smart pole is created specifically to reduce the risk of accidents in hilly areas, funded and executed by HP Lubricants and Leo Burnett India. The initial aim is to observe the progress of the device and then further amplify the scale and magnitude. The Police department looking after this 110 km of Jammu-Srinagar Highway belt has experienced multiple accidents each day – making it one of the most dangerous stretches of journey in the world.

As a consequence of the installation of the SmartLife pole, the department believes the number of accidents has reduced by big margin. The synergy of communications infrastructure and technology lays a strong basement and a way-forward towards smarter and safer mobility. The innovation adapted through #RoadsThatHonk is for long term growth and evolution of a host of capabilities and above all it helps in saving lives.
