Honda Working On Inline Six Cylinder Motor To Power A New Café Racer 2

The upcoming Honda bike will be inspired by the CBX model from the late 1970s era and will be powered by a newly developed 1200 cc inline six

Honda is secretly working on an inline six-cylinder motor which will power a new neo-retro café racer. The latest patent image filed by the Japanese bike maker reveals few interesting details about the upcoming bike. The patent image does inform us that the upcoming motorcycle will be powered by a big six-cylinder, liquid cooled motor while the motorcycle takes its styling inspiration from a retro café racer.

The upcoming motorcycle will most probably be called CBX 1200 named after the original CBX 1000 model that was produced by Honda in between 1978-1982. The original CBX had a top speed of 230 kph that was quite impressive keeping the time period in mind. There is a possibility that the upcoming motorcycle will most probably be powered by a 1,200cc, in-line six-cylinder engine.

However, unlike the original CBX model, the motor will not exactly be an air-cooled unit and thus won’t have fins on the cylinder head for cooling. As a result, the new motor will be more compact than the original unit. As you can clearly notice in the patent image the exhaust is split into three on each side. Now for those of you who are not aware, Honda Goldwing already has a six-cylinder engine but the new engine won’t have the same layout.

Although there are no details available about the upcoming bike at this moment, you can expect it to feature a full LED headlamp setup, an analogue and digital instrument t cluster to maintain the retro appeal and split seats. The motorcycle will also be equipped with a number of modern rider aid as well including an ABS, traction control and many other modern-day components.

Honda has a track record of showcasing their new concept within a few months of filing a patent. So we can sincerely hope that the Japanese bike maker will showcase this new concept bike at one of the popular motorcycle shows later this year.
