Honda Recall 1.90 Lakh Cars Over Faulty Airbag in India

Honda recall 1.90 Lakh vehicles; the affected cars include Accord, City, Civic, CR-V and Jazz

Honda Cars India Limited has voluntarily recalled a total of 1,90,578 cars over faulty airbag issue. The affected cars include several popular models like City, Jazz, Accord, Civic and CR-V. The faulty Takata airbag issue has been making headlines across the world. These Honda cars come equipped with the suspected faulty airbags inflators. In US several accidents and deaths have been reported because of the faulty airbag inflators.

The most affected Honda model in India is the City, as it has the largest recalled number. The Japanese automaker has recalled a total of 137270 units of Honda City. These cars have been built in between 2008 to 2011. The Honda Accord has the second highest recalled volume with 22483 units which were manufactured in between 2003 to 2011.

The old generation of Honda Jazz is also among the affected cars. 15706 units of old Honda Jazz has been recalled, which were built in between 2009 to 2011. While 2 units of the 2007 built Honda Civic has been recalled, 13603 units of the next generation model has been recalled. The Honda CR-V also includes in the list of recalled models. A total of 1514 units of the car has been recalled.

The replacement of the faulty airbag inflators of affected CR-Vs and Civics will begin immediately. The other affected models will go through replacement process from September this year. This is the 7th recall program by the Japanese automaker in India in last two years.

The owners of the recalled vehicles can get their car’s faulty airbag inflator replaced at no cost at the Honda dealerships across the country. They can check if their cars include in the recall program or not by submitting the 17 letter Vehicle Identification Number or VIN in the dedicated microsite in the HCIL official website.
