Honda showcases Rebel 500 at ongoing Shanghai motor show, India debut expected next year at 2020 Delhi Auto Expo

Honda showcased the updated 2019 Rebel 500 cruiser at the ongoing Shanghai Motor show. The updated Rebel 500 has received some new features and colour options for 2019. The cruiser with its blacked out styling and new colour options will surely turn heads wherever it goes.

The Rebel 500 will be a direct rival to the Royal Enfield Classic and Thunderbird 500 if Honda decides to launch it here in India. The Rebel 500 has a compact frame and a low slung seat and is powered by a 471cc, parallel-twin engine that has been tuned to offer a balanced power delivery in between lower and upper revs.

As far as its styling is concerned, the Rebel 500 is a mix of old and new school styling. The 2019 Rebel 500 continues to sport the same small cruiser stance. The fat front tire is covered by a cut-down front fender.

The round retro headlamp is followed by a single pod instrument cluster and wider handlebar. The fuel tank sits on top of the exposed frame. Unlike the original model the new generation Rebel comes with a solo seat but the model displayed at the auto show was equipped with a pillion seat as well positioned on top of the rear fender.

There are few elements in the motorcycle which has been borrowed from Honda’s sportsbikes but fortunately, they don’t look out of place and instead adds a sharp and a modern appeal to the Rebel.

Like we already mentioned above the Rebel 500 is powered by a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin four-stroke engine. This unit is capable of producing around 47 PS of peak power at 8,500 rpm and around 43 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The Honda Rebel 500 uses a 41mm fork conventional forks at the front with 4.8 inches of travel the rear profile sports a dual shocks with 3.8 inches of travel. The motorcycles rely on a single 296 mm disc towards the front and 240 mm disc towards the rear to bring it to a stop. The 2019 Honda Rebel is available with a total of 7 colour options.
