Honda midsize SUV will go on sale this summer and it appears to have its design heavily influenced by the latest global WR-V

Honda Cars India has today released the first official teaser image of its upcoming midsize SUV for the domestic market. The teaser shows the presence of an upright front grille with a Honda badge mounted in the middle, and it is flanked by a sleek-looking LED lighting unit. The sporty-looking front bumper houses the LED fog lamps and in the middle, the wide central air intake can be seen.

The lower portion of the bumper comprises a skid plate while flared fenders, roof rails, a raked front windshield and a muscular bonnet structure are other visual highlights. The side character lines, black wheel arch cladding and electrically adjustable wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators can also be noted. It will be sold in mono- and dual-tone colour schemes.

The Honda midsize SUV, in short, appears to be heavily influenced by the new generation WR-V unveiled globally in November 2022. As for India, the five-seater is expected to have an overall length of around 4.2-4.3 metres and it will be underpinned by the modified version of the Amaze compact sedan’s architecture.

It will compete against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the highly competitive midsize SUV space. Honda’s domestic lineup is about to shrink ahead of the arrival of more stringent emission standards coming into effect from April 1, 2023.

The WR-V crossover, Jazz premium hatchback, diesel engine found in the Amaze and City, and the fourth generation City will be discontinued. The Japanese auto major will only have the petrol-powered Amaze, petrol and strong hybrid petrol-engined City in its range by then. Thus, the upcoming Honda midsize SUV holds plenty of significance for the brand.

It will likely derive power from the 1.5-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine and the 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission choices. The cabin will feature a new electronic architecture and a large touchscreen infotainment system, an all-digital cluster and ADAS technologies are highly anticipated.
