Honda took the covers off an all-new electric sports car concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show and it follows the rather conventional yet futuristic Urban EV debuted in the same year at Frankfurt. As much as the cutesy conceptual version in Germany, the Sports EV concept made us wonder if the brand is getting ever closer to production with electrified powertrain. As Honda targets converting majority of its global range into zero-emission vehicles, the Sports EV concept could be given the green signal for production.
Would be so glad if they do though, judging by the first impression. It has now made its appearance in India at the ongoing 2018 Auto Expo. The small sports car concept is the second from the line of exclusive electric architecture Honda has developed. It will be flexible to expand its capabilities into different categories for achieving balanced production costs. As the Urban EV will enter production as the first member of the new platform within the next two years, its complements will likely inspire Honda to sell the road-going Sports EV as well.

The Honda Sports EV Concept does derive its styling from the retro performance cars of the early years with short wheelbase. It shares several elements with the city runner, the Urban EV, while predictably would not change much when it reaches assembly lines. With compact proportions and authentic long bonnet, it is a perfect blend of a front-engined rear-wheel drive sports car with agile handling. However, it will be electrified as the future beckons.
The Honda Sports EV Concept carries a striking retro silhouette, a warm face and supple body surfaces to fit into any lifestyle. The side profile is muscular and flowing along with large wheels, side skirt and of course the long hood. It is expected to possess advanced Artificial Intelligence technologies and in-car connectivity as well.
