Honda Cars India sold 11,442 units in May 2019 but it was 4,422 units less when compared to the same month last year when new Amaze was launched

Honda Cars India has officially announced its monthly domestic sales report for May 2019. With a total of 11,442 units, Honda sold 4,422 units more when compared to the same month last year. In May 2018, the Japanese manufacturer launched the second generation Amaze.

In its very first month, 9,789 units were registered and it resulted in the sales spike of 41 per cent. But it was not the case in May 2019 though as the whole automotive industry took a big hit in recent months. Honda was the only auto brand to post positive sales growth in April 2019 but it had to face 28 per cent sales decline last month.

HCIL has also exported 450 units in May 2019. The Japanese company says that the upswing expected following elections has not come yet and factors like liquidity affecting capital alongside increase in fuel prices exacerbated the sales de-growth. Honda is “still” hopeful of a revival in demand due to the favourable monsoon and “expected actions by the new government.”

Honda sells Brio, Jazz, Amaze, WR-V, BR-V, City, Civic and CR-V in the Indian market while the Accord Hybrid is offered as Completely Built Unit (CBU) import. The company has a vast sales and distribution network containing 381 facilities in 264 cities across the country.

The tenth generation Civic saw the light earlier this year as the revived nameplate took the segment by surprise with over 2,000 units in its very first month. However, the second-gen Amaze continues to be the top-selling model for the brand. The sub-four-metre sedan has been well-received among buyers and it was responsible for nearly half of the brand’s sales in the last financial year.

Honda is expected to launch the next generation City sometime next year and it will reportedly get a hybrid variant in 2021. The arrival of HR-V has long been anticipated in India but official confirmation on its debut has been made yet.
