The second generation Amaze has been a major sales driver for Honda ever since it went on sale and last month was no different
The second generation Amaze launched in May 2018 played a pivotal role in Honda garnering good volumes last fiscal as it contributed to nearly one half the total volume. Based on a new architecture, Honda threw everything at the latest Amaze as its predecessor was losing ground in a big margin.
However, the heavily upgraded exterior and more upmarket interior have done wonders for the subcompact sedan. In FY2019, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire rival posted 85,061 unit sales with a massive growth of 293 per cent. Despite the unfavourable scenarios prevailing in the auto industry, the Amaze managed to perform well last month.
The Japanese manufacturer registered a total of 11,442 units in May 2019 with 28 per cent sales de-growth as compared to the corresponding month last year with 15,885 units. The Amaze played a big part in the tally as 6,000 units were dispatched last month. Since May 2018 was the month of its launch, a significant YoY sales drop was witnessed individually.
There is no doubt that the Amaze will continue to be the torch-bearer for Honda in terms of gaining volumes during the course of this year and it remains as the second best-selling sedan within its segment behind the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which recorded 16,196 units last month with a de-growth of 34 per cent.
Except for the newly launched Venue, no other Hyundai model performed to a greater level as the sub-four-metre Xcent sedan, rivalling Dzire and Amaze, managed to gather only 1,694 unit sales with a volume slump of 54 per cent. The Amaze is priced between Rs. 5.89 lakh for the base variant and it goes all the way up to Rs. 9.56 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom) for the range-topping model.
The Amaze derives power from a 1.2-lite i-VTEC petrol engine making 88 bhp and 110 Nm while the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel kicks out 99 bhp and 200 Nm. The former is mated to a five-speed manual or a CVT with paddle shifters while the latter received a CVT gearbox in the latest generation.
