Hero Splendor Continues To Lead 2W Sales; Beats Activa Again In May

Hero Splendor Regains Top Spot From Activa In Sales In March 2018

The Honda Activa witnessed a YoY sales drop of 20 per cent and finished behind Hero Splendor with a deficit of nearly 50,000 units

The fight between the Honda Activa and Hero Splendor to gain the top spot in the monthly 2 wheeler sales seems to be everlasting. While the Splendor was the long-reigning king of the sales charts, the Honda Activa has repeatedly dethroned the budget motorcycle on many occasions in recent times.

However, last month, the Honda Activa could not surpass the Hero Splendor to become the highest selling two-wheeler in the country. It managed to sell 2,18,734 units as against 2,72,475 units during the same month last year with a massive 20 per cent sales drop. The Splendor, on the other hand, clocked 2,67,450 units – nearly 50,000 units more than the Activa.

With this, the Splendor has once again proven to be far more popular than the best-selling scooter in India. If you compare the YoY sales figures of both the two-wheelers, there has been drop in sales but the Splendor’s wasn’t as damaging as the Activa. 2018 Honda Activa 125 Launched At Rs. 59,621; Gets LED Headlamp

The Hero Splendor found a whopping 2,80,763 buyers in May 2018 and was the largest selling 2 wheeler in the country. Last month, however, it sold 2,67,450 units as the YoY deficit stood at just over 13,000 units compared to more than 54,000 units for Activa.

The drop in the sales of the Honda Activa as well as the Hero Splendor can be attributed to the general slowdown in the auto market of the country. Even if you look at other popular models, like the Suzuki Gixxer and Royal Enfield Classic 350, both the motorcycles have witnessed a significant downfall in their sales.

Just to give you a refresher, Honda is expected to launch the Honda Activa 6G at the next year’s Auto Expo. The new model will feature a BSVI-compliant engine, connected features and a new suspension setup.
