Last month, Honda Motorcycle Scooter India (HMSI) took the wraps off a new iteration of the Honda Activa 125, which becomes its first-ever BS6-compliant two-wheeler in India. The new model will launch in September, a few months ahead of the April 1, 2020 deadline for all existing vehicles to comply with the stricter emission standards.

The Honda Activa 125 BS6 will even become the second 125cc scooter in India, after the Hero Maestro Edge 125 FI, to benefit from fuel injection. While full details aren’t available at the moment, what’s known is that the company has strapped on a PFM-FI fuel-injection system to the existing 125cc scooter to make it BS6-comliant.

Currently, the Honda Activa 125, which is available with a BS4 motor, offers a maximum power of 8.4 bhp at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 10.54 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The motor comes mated to a CVT. While it’s not known if the engine would offer similar power figures, it will be more frugal by up to 10 per cent.

The Honda Activa 125 BS6 even offers a semi-digital speedometer console that offers information like average fuel economy and range. The updated Activa 125 will also have an external fuel-filler cap with the 4-in-in ignition switch.

In terms of styling, the Honda Activa 125 BS6 will look a lot like the current model. However, the new model will have new LED headlamp with reflectors, chrome inserts on side panels, and new tail lamps. The colour options will include- Rebel Red Metallic, Black, Heavy Grey Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Pearl Precious White, Majestic Brown Metallic.
