HMSI registers all time highest August sales as the domestic market saw the Japanese brand reaching nearly 5 lakhs mark
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has registered multiple records in terms of sales in August, 2016. The two wheeler manufacturer has recorded an all time high sales of 492,416 units combining both domestic sales and exports. The domestic sales for the company has crossed 4.5 lakh for the first time with 466,342 units, while it has also seen an all time high single month export figure of 26,074 units.
Right ahead of the festive season the high sales figure has given the company desired boost, and it is also expecting even higher growth in upcoming days. Compared to August 2015, HMSI’s domestic sales has grown 25% in August, 2016, and as per year on year basis the company’s sales has increased nearly touching 1 lakh units (97,220).

The Honda Activa has played a very important role behind the recent success of the HMSI, as the best selling scooter in India has sold more than 3 lakh units for second time in a row. Compared to August, 2015’s 246,763 units the Honda Activa has recorded 27% higher sales in last month with 336,393, which marks an all time high sales figure. The motorcycle sales also grew by 11% from 126,373 units in August, 2015 to 129,949 units in last month.
The company marked all time high exports as well, with the Honda CB Hornet 160R and Dio playing crucial roles. With the 26,074 units exported in August, 2016 the HMSI has recorded all time highest export, and in just 5 months the two wheeler export of the company has crossed 1 lakh mark which also marked 29% growth. Interestingly, while HMSI marked this 29% export growth, the entire industry exports has seen 13% de-growth.

In terms of overall sales the HMSI has recorded more than 4.5 lakh units for the first time in July, 2016, and in August, the figure reached nearly 5 lakhs. In last month the two wheeler maker sold 492,416 units compared to 395,196 units in August last year. In terms market share as well, the HMSI has gained 2% share to reach 26% combining both domestic and export market. It makes the HMSI the only two wheeler maker of the country to gain more than 1% market share.
