Hero launched five new two-wheelers last month and they include the Xpulse 200, 200T and Xtreme 200S

Hero MotoCorp endured a busy month of May 2019 as three new motorcycles were introduced. The long-awaited Xpulse 200 broke into the scenes alongside its rather tamed and road-focussed 200T. Perhaps, the most surprising of the launches had to be the 200S as the full-faired bike based on the naked Xtreme 200R has been well received among customers.

The Xpulse 200 costs Rs. 97,000 for the carb variant while the 200 T carries a sticker tag of Rs. 94,000. The fuel injected version of the Xpulse 200, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 1.05 lakh. The Xtreme 200S undercuts some of its key rivals by a big margin as it is priced at Rs. 98,500 (all prices, ex-showroom).

The deliveries of the Xpulse 200, 200T and Xtreme 200S have indeed commenced in the domestic market. The 200T uses the same 199.6 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke, 2V, OHC engine good enough to generate a maximum power output of 18.4 PS at 8,000 rpm and 17.1 Nm of peak torque delivered at 6,500 rpm.

It is connected to a five-speed transmission. The 200S shares several mechanical components with the 200T and some of its highlighting features are full LED headlamp, single-channel ABS system, new LCD instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, gear position indicator and service reminder among others.

Hero sold 6,52,028 units last month and registered 13 per cent YoY growth as the homegrown brand got past six lakh volume mark for the first time since February 2019. The company debuted two new scooters as well in the same month as the Maestro 125 was launched as India’s first fuel-injected scooter besides the updated Pleasure Plus.

Despite the unfavourable market scenario prevailing, the newly launched motorcycles and scooters could help Hero to maintain a healthy volume tally through the coming months. It will be interesting to see how Honda stacks up as it is dealing with consistent drop in volume figures in the last few months.
