Hero sold 2,80,763 units of Splendor in May 2018 but Honda sold only 2,72,455 units as the commuter motorcycle outsmarted by over 8,300 units
Hero Splendor and Honda Activa are the two best selling products in Indian Automotive Industry. The battle for top honour shows a big change every month. In March 2018, Splendor beat Activa then in April, Honda regained the crown. This month, Splendor took back the top position and Activa sales dropped after months of consistent growth.
Hero sold 2,80,763 units of Splendor in May 2018 compared to 2,82,478 units same month last year. But Honda sold 2,72,455 units last month compared to 2,82,478 units of same month last year. The scooter segment sales generally went down last month as it is the only segment in Indian automotive industry which registered negative growth.

One of the reasons for drop in scooter sales is that people started to prefer bike and rural demand for entry level small bikes increased considerably. It has helped all the bike manufacturer even for Honda, but Activa still makes up 50 percent sales of Japanese brand. We can expect the momentum to continue moving forward for bikes.
Both Splendor and Activa are available with different engine options. The Splendor is available with 98.2 cc, 110 cc and 125 cc. Among these variants, the entry level 98.2 cc and 110 cc models are more popular among customers. The 98.2 cc engine produces 8.36 PS of power at 8,000 rpm and 8.05 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. This engine is mated to 4 speed gearbox.

The 109.15 cc engine produces 9.3 hp of power at 7,500 rpm and 9 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The braking duties are done by 130 mm drum at front and 110 mm drum at rear, the company is also offering disc brake as an option. Hero Splendor range is priced between Rs. 48,500 and Rs. 55,800 (Ex-Showroom) and competes against Bajaj Platina and TVS Sport.
Honda Activa is available with 110 cc and 125 cc. The bread and butter variant is 110 cc model which produces 8 hp of power and 9 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to CVT gearbox and it comes with features like LED headlamp, digital instrument cluster, chrome inserts and more. The Activa range is priced between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 59,000 (Ex-Showroom).
