Hero Splendor Beats Honda Activa Again In January 2019 Sales

Hero Splendor Regains Top Spot From Activa In Sales In March 2018

The Splendor continues to lead the two-wheeler segment in India for the fifth consecutive month from Honda Activa and now it is available with CBS system also

Hero Splendor started 2019 really well as the company sold 2,23,909 units in January compared to 2,13,302 units by Honda Activa and the Splendor continues to lead the two-wheeler segment in India for the fifth consecutive month. The sales difference between Splendor and Activa is increasing each month.

But both models registered negative sales growth in January as Splendor posted minor drop in sales of 3 per cent while the Active sales came down by 13 per cent, which is really high considering that it is the best selling model of the company in India. It has affected the overall sales of Honda as the Japanese manufacturer posted 18 per cent negative Year-on-Year growth.

Hero MotoCorp also registered 8 per cent negative growth in the same period and the company sold 6,10,387 units in January compared to 4,88,855 units by Honda. Even though Honda updates Activa every year the changes are minor and most of them are limited to just aesthetics only.

Most of the people prefer the 125 cc scooter models and Honda has Grazia along with Activa 125 in this segment, but they are not selling in good numbers. The Grazia sales are coming down each month and the company sold just over 8000 units last month and sales dropped by 63 per cent. Honda might introduce an update for Activa to improve sales.

The Destini 125 from Hero is also performing really well in the 125 cc scooter segment as the company sold 21,352 units last month. Most of the scooter models from Hero in the 110 cc segment also registered negative growth like the Activa. The growth for Splendor series is coming from rural towns and villages as they prefer bike over the scooter.

Hero has recently updated the Splendor and other entry-level models with Combi-Braking system as all two-wheelers below 125 cc must come with CBS system and the deadline for introducing this system is April 1. The price difference between the non-CBS model is minor and these model can’t be sold after the deadline.
