Hero MotoCorp inaugurates Rs. 850 crore R&D facility in Jaipur, christened as global ‘Centre of Innovation and Technology’(CIT)

Hero MotoCorp has inaugurated a new Research and Development centre in Jaipur with an investment of Rs. 850 crore. Christened as the global ‘Centre of Innovation and Technology’(CIT), the facility will be responsible for the design and development of two-wheeler products for Indian as well as international markets.

For the new facility, the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in the world has hired more than 500 engineers from around the globe and also from India. The CIT is spread across 247 acres and comprises of world-class design studios and research laboratories under one roof.

Hero MotoCorp has said the R&D centre showcases the technological capabilities of our local production and its emphasis towards green technology. The Centre of Innovation and Technology will play a pivotal role in Hero’s ambition of entering more international markets.

The company already has presence in Latin America, South East Asia and Africa and will enter Nigeria and Mexico whilst targetting an ambitious one crore units of sale by 2017-18. The facility has all the global technologies incorporated for testing, validation, design and development according to Hero MotoCorp.

The vast technological centre in Rajasthan consists of modern test tracks spanning 16 kilometres. They facilitate for 45 different surface conditions which will be useful in simulating real world road conditions existing in India and also globally.

New work processes will be carried out for elevating the product quality to meet global standards. It will function as per the ‘Innovate in India’ theme set by home-grown manufacturer. Hero has also understood the need in being eco-friendly as advanced green technologies will be employed in to the design.

The Indian Green Building Council has rated the facility – designed by global Architects & Design consortium – as ‘Platinum’ by awarding a total of 91 points which is the highest among manufacturing sector in the country. Whilst having top-level ecological standards, the centre will provide direct and indirect employment to people in the region. Hero MotoCorp aims to continue the success of the in-house R&D and production facilities which already gave birth to Maestro Edge and Duet scooters.
