Haryana government has banned the 15 year old petrol vehicles and 10 year old diesel vehicles from plying in NCR. The cities like Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonepat and Jhajjar comes under the territorial jurisdiction of National Capital Region or NCR. According to the ban imposed by Haryana government 15 year old petrol vehicles and 10 year old diesel vehicles can’t run in these cities.
Interestingly, the ban comes soon after the NGT’s proposal. Recently NGT proposed to ban the 15 year old petrol and 10 year old diesel vehicles in Delhi and NCR. The four cities in Haryana, where the ban is implemented, have more than 20 lakh registered vehicles. Haryana state transport Minister Krishan Lal Panar has issued the order of the ban. He has also directed the concerned authorities to implement the ban effectively.
As World Health Organisation (WHO) has reported, Delhi is at 11th position on the list of most polluted cities in the world. The NCR comes with much higher pollution level, which is as much as 25 times higher than normal level.
Delhi government has been taking several steps to curb the pollution level in the national capital. It implemented the odd even rule in the city in two phases. This odd even rule significantly reduced the pollution level and traffic congestion in Delhi.
