The renowned American cruiser bike maker, Harley-Davidson, is currently witnessing negative sales growth worldwide. The company has recorded a sales dip of 6.9 percent in comparison to the same period last year. When talking of the United States, the company has registered a sales decline of 8.1 percent, which is slightly better than the industry decline that stood at 9.2 percent.
Despite these negative numbers, Harley-Davidson improved improved its market share in the 601cc plus motorcycle segment and it currently has a hold of 53.1 percent. Talking of the company’s upcoming product strategy, Harley-Davidson has ambitious plans to introduce as many as 100 new models in the next 10 years.
Regarding the negative numbers of the company, Mr Matt Levatich, who is the President and CEO at Harley-Davidson, US states that the continued weakness in the US motorcycle industry only heightens the company’s resolve and intensity that it is bringing to the quest to build the next generation of Harley-Davidson riders.
The top honcho further went on to say that launching a hundred new high impact motorcycles will be a critical part of the company’s 10 year long journey and the recently launched Softail range is a significant statement of the brand’s commitment.
In other news, Harley-Davidson India has recently launched four models under the Softail family. The cheapest of the four being the Street Bob that was launched at Rs. 11.99 lakh and extending up till the Heritage Classic that carries a price tag of Rs. 18.99 lakh. The Fat Bob and Fat Boy have arrived at respective prices of Rs. 13.99 lakh and Rs. 17.49 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
