Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) dominates the full-size SUV segment courtesy of the Fortuner. The seven-seater has been the segment leader for a very long time and despite the consistent price hikes, its popularity only grows amongst customers judging by the volume sales every month. It was the fourth most sold Toyota model last month in India.
It was just over 100 units short of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV. In the month of May 2023, Toyota sold a domestic total of 2,887 units of the Fortuner as against 1,184 units during the same period last year with a YoY positive sales growth of 144 per cent. The Jeep Meridian finished in the second position with a total of 418 units.

Toyota appears to be currently working on the next-generation Fortuner. Its global debut will more likely happen early next year and considering its popularity in India, it could reach local shores in late 2024.
It will be heavily influenced by the design of the latest Tacoma pickup truck, which made its world premiere only a few weeks ago. The next-gen Fortuner will more likely have a more upscale interior with the inclusion of new features and technology. It will be based on a heavily updated ladder frame chassis and will use a diesel hybrid engine.
It is expected to be more powerful and fuel-efficient while sticking by the stringent emission standards prevailing across the globe.
