Toyota Fortuner posted 2,825 units in the month of August 2023 as against 2,581 units with a YoY growth of 9 per cent
The Toyota Fortuner has been a mainstay in the full-size SUV segment for years. The exit of Ford from the Indian market certainly helped in further increasing its sales numbers as the Endeavour had to be discontinued. It is no secret that the Fortuner’s reign is indomitable and its monthly sales tallies prove just that.
Every month, the Toyota Fortuner garners six to seven times more volumes compared to the grand total of all its closest and direct rivals amidst the consistent price hikes the SUV has witnessed in recent times. In the month of August 2023, the Toyota Fortuner registered a cumulative domestic tally of 2,825 units as against 2,581 units.
This led to a YoY positive sales growth of 9 per cent in India. The Skoda Kodiaq finished in the second position with a total of 241 units as against 151 units during the corresponding period twelve months ago with a YoY volume surge of 60 per cent – the highest growth of them all. The MG Gloster came in at third ahead of Jeep Meridian and VW Tiguan.

MG Motors’ Gloster finished in the third position with a domestic total of 240 units last month as against 185 units during the same period in 2022 with a YoY growth of 30 per cent. The Jeep Meridian finished in the fourth position with a total of 127 units against 400 units during the same period last year with a sales drop of 68 per cent.
The Volkswagen Tiguan was the fifth most sold full-size SUV in the country last month as 91 units were recorded against 155 units during the same period in 2022 with a YoY volume de-growth of 41 per cent. Toyota is expected to bring in the new generation Fortuner next year as its global debut is highly anticipated.
It will more likely get a mild hybrid diesel engine and a thoroughly redesigned exterior taking inspiration from the latest Tacoma pickup truck. India could be one of the first markets to get the all-new SUV, which could be based on the TNGA-F platform.
