Ford is expecting increased sales of EcoSport than current 4,500 units per month; could help to gain more market share

Ford India has just launched its refreshed new EcoSport facelift that comes incorporating significant amount of update at exterior and inside the cabin. The facelifted EcoSport is more attractive and upmarket compared to the pre-facelift version. The American auto major is expecting to see increased sales number of the compact SUV that will help in growing its market share in the highly competitive Indian market.

Currently, Ford sells around 4,000 – 4,500 units of EcoSport in domestic market. A sales boost of the car is expected thanks to the refreshing update of the model. Pried between Rs. 7.31 lakh and Rs. 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the EcoSport comes competing with the tough rival Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and couple of other tough SUVs as well, that includes Honda WR-V and Tata Nexon.

Ford claims the EcoSport currently holds around 20% market share in the highly competitive compact SUV segment of Indian auto market. A boost in sales will also increase the brand’s overall market share in the country. Apart from selling the car in domestic market, Ford is also gearing up to export the model to North American market from this month only. Currently, the made-in-India car is shipped to more than 50 global markets that include South Africa, Mexico and more.

As the band says, it has sold more than 2 lakh made-in-India EcoSports in the overseas markets. The automaker used to ship the European market-spec model from its Chennai plant, but recently it has started production of the Euro-spec model in its Romania plant. This move has reduced the number of export of EcoSport significantly.

The brand also anticipates that the entire compact SUV category will grow faster in coming days compared to the rest of the market and this segment will go up to 24% by 2021.
