The Ford Mustang Performance Package Level 2 takes forward everything from the level 1 pack with some additional benefits
Ford has recently introduced a performance package for its Mustang. Named as the Performance Package Level 2, the kit is meant to bridge the gap between the basic level 1 package and the performance of the GT350 and GT350R.
Going into the details of the new Performance Package Level 2, the engineers at Ford have spent enough time with the NASA specialists in the wind tunnel to design a new splitter for the pony car. The new unit provides approximately 24 pounds of downforce at a speed of 80 mph that will help keep the car planted at high speed corners. The spoiler has also been revised that will offer 60 pounds of downforce at 80 mph.
Another interesting highlight of the new Performance Package Level 2 is the new set of tyres. Under this kit, the customer gets four Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres having 305 section width. The wheel size is 19×10.5 inch upfront while for the rear, it is 19×11 inch, accounting for 1.5 inch more width as compared to the basic level 1 package.
In order to handle the extra grip from the wider tyres, the chassis of the car has also been retuned under the level 2 package. The engine and brakes remain unchanged and not much significant has been done in order to carry out weight reduction. This means that the motor in the Ford Mustang will continue to churn out 460 Bhp of power and 569 Nm of torque.
The team has also tested the Mustang equipped with the level 2 package at the Grattan Raceway in Michigan and the result turned out to be fruitful. The level 2 package saved a time of 3.5 seconds on the lap time as compared to the level 1 package.
Now coming to the pricing, the Ford Mustang Performance package level 2 will set you back by USD 6500, which means it commands a premium of USD 1500 over the level 1 package. As already mentioned, the package is meant to bridge the gap between the Mustang and the GT and if you wish for more, the latter is waiting to be yours in exchange of more cash.
