Ford India Recalls 48700 EcoSport Across the Country

Ford EcoSport is one of the most popular and best selling compact SUV in the Indian market. The car is presently the most exported car from India, as the automaker exports made in India EcoSport to the European market. Now the Ford India has voluntarily recalled a total of 48700 units of the popular compact SUV from two batches.

Both the petrol and diesel models have been affected by the EcoSport’s recall program. The first batch of affected EcoSports have been manufactured between April, 2013 to June, 2014. A total of 48000 Ford EcoSports from the first batch powered by diesel engines, have been recalled to install a bundle clip on the fuel and brake lines. Although Ford didn’t reveal whether the bundle clips on these EcoSports have been installed or not, or even if it were installed, whether it’s faulty.

The second batch of affected EcoSports includes a total of 700 units, which were manufactured between January and February this year. In the second batch of recalled EcoSports both the petrol and diesel models have been affected. Ford India cited the reason behind the recall is replacement of poor quality bolts used while assembling the rear seats. The second batch of EcoSports have been equipped with 60:40 foldable rear seats. Ford explains there is problem with 40% rear seat backrests, as the bolts used in assembling the seats don’t meet the Ford’s material specification. The bolts are tending to break.

Ford EcoSport is the best selling model for the American automaker in Indian market. The car is built in four manufacturing plants around the globe. Chennai plant is one of those plants. The car is available in both petrol and diesel options, with engines ranging between 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol, 1.0 litre Ecoboost petrol and a 1.5 litre TDCi diesel unit.

The 1.0 litre Ecoboost petrol is the most popular one among the lot. Months ago with the introduction of Maruti Suzuki’s first compact SUV Vitara Brezza Ford slashed the price of the EcoSport diesel by Rs. 1.13 lakh. The EcoSport is priced between Rs. 6.79 lakh to Rs. 10.44 lakh depending on the variants and engine options.
