Criticised for being underpowered, Force Motors has launched a more powerful version of the Gurkha in the Indian market
Force Gurkha has finally launched the much-awaited high powered version of the Gurkha in the Indian market. The new SUV comes with a new 2.2-litre engine that generates a maximum of 140 Bhp and is priced at Rs. 12.99 lakhs.
The Force Gurkha remains unchanged from the outside and offers the same boxy design look with a factory-fitted snorkel. The Force Gurkha resembles the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen a lot and continues to do so even with the more powerful engine option. The new engine has been derived from a Mercedes-Benz engine and it produces a maximum of 140 Bhp and 321 Nm of peak torque.
The vehicle gets a 5-speed manual transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz too. The regular variants of the Gurkha continue to offer the same 2.6-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum of 85 Bhp. Force Motors has also made changes to the design of the vehicle to make it more capable off-the-road.
It gets an updated suspension system. There is now multi-link type suspension at both front and rear, giving it better capability off the road. Force Motors has also improved the approach angle, break over angle and the departure angle of the Gurkha to make sure that it can reach much more difficult situations than the regular version of the vehicle.
It gets 205mm of ground clearance and a whopping 550mm of water wading depth, which makes it much more superior than the likes of Mahindra Thar in the stock condition. Gurkha is the only vehicle that gets a factory-fitted snorkel in that price segment.
The Force Gurkha is available in various set-ups. There are a hardtop and soft top versions of the vehicles and Force Motors also offers three-door and a five-door variant of the vehicle in the market. The Mahindra Thar is priced below Rs. 10 lakhs but the Force Gurkha offers more power and a better level of equipment for off-roading.
