To counter the poor sales, the Nissan Sunny is being sold with a flat discount of Rs 1.28 lakh on the CVT-equipped model

Back in the day, the Nissan Sunny became the most spacious C2-segment offering with a very roomy interior and a great rear legroom. The launch of the new models like the Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz has now stolen the limelight from the sedan and hence, you can buy it at some great prices.

Currently, the CVT-equipped version of the Nissan Sunny is on sale at Rs 9.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, Nissan India is offering a flat discount of Rs 1.28 lakh, which reduces the price to Rs 8.58 lakh. At this price, the automatic version of the Sunny ends up being cheaper than the Delta trim of the Ciaz and entry-level S trim of the Honda City. This means that you can enjoy the convenience of an automatic transmission-equipped model for the price of an entry-level variant of the manual City and Ciaz.

The Nissan Sunny is expected to remain on sale for another year, before the introduction of BSVI emission norms. The low sales of the sedan won’t push the manufacturer to update to BSVI-compliant engines. However, as the company already offers ABS with airbags and reverse parking sensors on its C2-segment offering, it will continue to sell the vehicle for another year. All it will have to do is to update the vehicle with front seatbelt reminder and high speed warning alert.

Powering the Nissan Sunny CVT is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, 16-valve HR15 petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 97.6 bhp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 134 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The motor comes paired with the manufacturer’s X-Tronic Continuously Variable Transmission.

The Nissan Sunny is also available with the tried-and-tested 8-valve K9K diesel engine that
produces a maximum power of 84.8 bhp at 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 200 Nm @ 2,000 rpm. The diesel engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
