Premium hatchback segment in India is witnessing good growth, thanks to models like Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20, which offers good space and boot volume. These premium hatchbacks are also loaded with lots of advanced features as it is also one of the reasons for its huge success. In this article, we take a look at the upcoming cars in the premium hatchback segment.

1. 2020 Honda Jazz

Honda commenced works on the fourth generation Jazz and it is expected to be introduced early next year in the global market while India launch is likely to take place by the end of 2020. The new model will be based on the same platform as the current model but Honda will make some changes to make it better and also to meet new safety norms.

The MPV like exterior design theme is expected to be carried over from the current generation model as it is one of the trademarks of the hatchback. The interior will be modern and design will the inspirations from new models like Civic and CRV. Honda Jazz will be available in petrol, hybrid and diesel powertrain options with manual and auto.

2. Toyota Glanza

Toyota is going to launch the new Glanza premium hatchback on June 6 and it is basically the re-engineered version of Baleno. Both models share the same design theme but Toyota has made some changes like new chrome finished front grille. The Glanza carry forward the same alloy wheels from Baleno.

The interior is likely to be carried over from Baleno and it comes loaded with features like touch screen infotainment system, climate control, keyless entry, push-button start and more. The Glanza will be offered only in two trims and it comes with 3 years warranty. The engine options include the BSVI 1.2 L petrol engine with a manual gearbox.

3. Tata Altroz

Tata Altroz made its global debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and it is the production version of the 45X Concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Altroz follows the same design theme as the concept model as the front get the black-finished grille with projector headlamps and LED DRLs along with a new bumper.

The hatchback comes with LED tail lamps and new machine cut alloy wheels. The interior is similar to other models from Tata Motors like the Nexon and Harrier. The Altroz will be loaded with lots of features like touch screen infotainment system, climate control and more. The premium hatchback will be initially offered only with petrol engine and an EV model will join the lineup later.

4. Nissan Micra

Nissan officially introduced the new generation Micra couple of years back but it is based on the advanced V-platform and the company won’t bring this model to India. Instead, the Japanese manufacturer might develop a new model based on the same platform as the current model in India with the same design theme as the International model.

The recently launched Kicks is based on the Duster platform to keep price low. The upcoming hatchback will get modern interior with lots of features. The engine options for the hatchback is not yet revealed but we can expect the company to offer both petrol and diesel engines with manual and auto gearbox options.

5. Kia Hatchback

Kia is planning to launch a new premium hatchback in the Indian market but it will be introduced later as they are going to launch Creta-rival SUV later this year. The upcoming hatchback is expected to be based on the same platform as Rio, which shares lots of components with the Hyundai Elite i20.

The new premium hatchback will measure under four metres and the interior will be based on other models. The Elite i20 rival will be loaded with lots of features like touch screen infotainment system, climate control, push-button start, reverse camera and more. The powertrain options include petrol and diesel engines with a manual and automatic gearbox.
