The Scooter market in India is booming almost on a daily basis. Almost all the major two-wheeler manufacturers have entered the scooter segment and are doing pretty good in winning the hearts of customers by offering new and improved products.
The scooter market in India is mostly dominated by four two-wheeler manufacturers including our very own home grown Hero Motocorp and TVS along with few other Japanese rivals like Suzuki and Honda.

1. TVS Jupiter Grande

TVS recently introduced the Jupiter Grande in India. There is no doubt in the fact that the Jupiter is the best selling scooter of India and this new variant introduced during the festive season will help boost the sales figures further. The scooter is offered with many new features to make it stand out from the standard variant.
The Jupiter Grande gets new all-LED headlamps which were missing earlier along with a semi-digital instrument cluster with blue backlit illumination. The scooter also gets a new cross-stitched maroon seat which actually helped add a more premium appeal to the scooter. TVS is also offering a USB and a mobile charger as an option.
The Jupiter Grande has not received any technical updates though and is still powered by the 109.7 cc single cylinder, air-cooled engine which powers the standard Jupiter variant. This engine is capable of producing about 8 bhp of peak power at 7,500 rpm and 8 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. This engine is mated to CVT automatic transmission.
2. Suzuki Access 125

There is no doubt in the fact that the Access 125 surely is one of the popular scooters when we speak of top 5 popular scooters of India at this moment. Suzuki gave the Access mid-life refresh back in 2016 and it hasn’t received any more updates since then except few special edition models.
The scooter sits on 12-inch wheels and is also offered with a front disc brake as an option. The Access 125 also features a part-analogue and part-digital instrument cluster and a 3D signature emblem.
The Access 125 is powered by a 125cc, four-stroke, OHC, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This engine produces a peak power output of about 8.5 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 10.2 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. The engine also claims fuel efficiency figures of 64 km to a liter.
3. Hero Destini 125

Hero Motocorp recently introduced the Destini 125 in India. The scooter is offered in two variants including LX and VX grades. The Hero Destini was first showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto show alongside the Hero Duet 125 and Maestro Edge 125.
The scooter gets Hero’s patented i3S idle start/stop technology which will help improve the fuel efficiency figures. The scooter is powered by a 124.6 cc single-cylinder air-cooled ‘Energy Boost’ unit which is capable of producing about 8.70 bhp at 6,750 rpm and 10.2 Nm of peak torque delivered at 5,000 rpm.
The Destini has a neat and clear design; unfortunately, it does not get LED headlamps yet unlike some of its rivals. However, it benefits from some other new features like a remote key opening, tubeless tires, external fuel filler cap, and a semi-digital instrumentation. The slightly pricier VX variant offers a boot light and mobile charger.
4. Suzuki Burgman Street
Price: Burgman Street STD:- Rs. 68,347 (ex-showroom)
This is the newest entrant from Suzuki and definitely also one of its kind maxi-Scooter in India. The Burgman Street was introduced in July 2018 and Suzuki was able to sell almost 9598 units of the scooter in September. The scooter took its overall styling inspiration from the bigger Burgman 650 and gets plenty of premium features which definitely are worth eye-catching.
For instance, the scooter gets LED headlamps and taillamps and a fully digital instrument cluster. Some other exclusive features include a 21.5 Litre under seat storage and a 12V smartphone charging socket. The scooter also gets taller positioned handlebars and also a small windscreen just in front of the instrument cluster.
The Suzuki Burgman 125 is powered by a 124.3 cc single cylinder engine producing 8.4 bhp of power at 6,500 rpm and 10.2 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. There is no doubt in the fact that the Honda Activa is definitely one of the most popular scooters of India. The scooter has been ruling the Indian market for the past 17 years and still continues to dominate the market.
The Activa has received its own share of updates in recent years and Honda introduced the new Activa 5G with some exclusive features this year. The scooter gets a full LED headlamps and a semi-digital instrument cluster. For the very first time, Honda has decided to offer an ECO speeds indicator alongside a Service Due Indicator as well.
The scooter is powered by the same single-cylinder air-cooled BS4 compliant engine which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 8 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 9 Nm of peak torque delivered at 5,500 rpm. The engine is tried and tested unit which also returns an impressive fuel efficiency figures as well. Honda does also offer other variants of Activa as well in the form of Activa 125 and the Active-I.
