Formula One veteran driver Felipe Massa took the stunt Jaguar CX-75 Supercar for a spin in celebration of Spectre Americas Premiere and the return of F1 to Mexico in over two decades

The C-X75 supercar from Jaguar featured in the 24th Bond adventure, Spectre, made its Americas debut in Mexico City with Williams Martini Racing driver Felipe Massa behind the wheel. To celebrate the Americas movie premiere of the new spectacular Bond franchise on 2nd of November and the Formula One Mexican Grand Prix, the event took place in Mexico City.

Formula One returns to the redeveloped Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico City for the first time since 1992.It coincides with the premiere of the second most expensive film ever made estimated at $300million, the 24th James Bond film Spectre, which has already received some stellar reviews from the critics.

Both the Williams F1 Team drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas will sport 007 SPECTRE logos on their cars to promote the release of the film over the race weekend. But why was all the buzz in Mexico City? As the storyline goes James Bond starring Daniel Craig is on a rogue mission that will lead him to Mexico City and eventually Rome where Jaguar C-X75 driven by latest Bond nemesis Hinx makes for one of the sensational high speed car chases ever.

The Jaguar CX-75 prototype was developed by Williams Advanced Engineering in conjunction with Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations. Williams Advanced Engineering is a business and service division of Williams F1 Team which expertise in commercializing Formula One technologies whereas Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations focusses on creating a range of high-performance models within JLR.

Commemorating its 75th birthday, Jaguar presented itself a concept car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show that will run on micro gas turbines instead of conventional internal combustion engine called CX-75 – taking design inspirations from some of the iconic Jaguars from the past.

The variations of original concept will appear in the film’s car chase sequence through Rome. Seven new C-X75s were built at the Williams facility in Grove including two “hero” cars that retained the interior and hybrid powertrain of the original.

Five stunt cars were built on a bespoke space-frame chassis with a level of robustness required to withstand the complex and demanding stunt sequences. The stunt cars were powered by modified Jaguar supercharged V8 engines.

The elated former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa acknowledged, after pushing one of the stunt CX-75 cars to its limits, that:

It was a thrill to take the wheel of a real stunt car used in a Bond movie. Jaguar partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering on the production of these stunning supercars, so it was great to experience some of what my colleagues have developed outside of F1. It was so much fun, and very exciting to be driving the Jaguar on a SPECTRE filming location here in Mexico City.
