Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 will go on sale on May 20 and it will reportedly produce 26.5 horsepower mated to a six-speed transmission

Suzuki has commenced production of its long-awaited 250 cc motorcycle for the domestic market and it is being dispatched to dealerships ahead of scheduled launch on May 20 at the Buddh International Circuit. The Japanese manufacturer could name it the Gixxer SF 250 or GSX-R250 (former more likely) and reports suggest that it will only be offered as a fully-faired variant unlike the Yamaha FZ25 and Fazer 25 duo.

The first official teaser does reveal the same by divulging the upper section of the fairing and the spy pictures we have shown here refuse to indicate otherwise. The design of the SF 250 will be derived from its bigger fully-faired GSX-R siblings sold across the globe and it could make a strong statement in the vastly growing premium segment.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 will get dual-channel ABS as standard fitment and will reportedly be offered in silver, grey and blue colour choices taking a page out of the Hayabusa for a premium look. The powertrain is expected to be a 250 cc oil-cooled four-value single-cylinder engine, which is good enough to produce 26.5 horsepower.

This puts the SF 250 ahead of Yamaha FZ25/Fazer 25 quite comfortable by being 6 hp more powerful and right on par with the Honda CBR250R. It will likely be BSIV compliant upon launch as liquid cooling could be introduced when the engine gets upgraded to meet BSVI regulations in early 2020.

Keen viewers will also note from the pictures that the Gixxer SF 250 won’t have traditional telescopic front forks and instead a more expensive USD setup will be used while the rear will get monoshock suspension. Suzuki could be aiming at infusing good performance characteristics into the SF 250.

Disc brakes up front and rear will accompany the dual-channel ABS system for stopping duties. Some of the key equipment onboard are LED headlight, LED tail light and indicators, digital instrument cluster, dual exhaust pipes and perhaps slightly stepped seat layout. Expect the pricing to hover around Rs. 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
