2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift gets new 1.5L SHVS petrol engine along with regular 1.3L diesel; the latter will be replaced by all-new 1.5L diesel this FY
As we get inches closer to the launch of Maruti Suzuki’s facelifted version of the Ciaz sedan this month, several interesting details have started emerging. Unlike initially expected, the updated Ciaz will be introduced with both petrol and diesel engine option. However, there lies a bit of a twist. The new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS technology stands in place of the outgoing 1.4-litre unit.
It will gradually make its way to other vehicles in the portfolio including the new generation Ertiga. The more powerful engine is good enough to pump out 103 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque delivered at 4,400 rpm. With idle start-stop Smart Hybrid tech, the 1,462 cc VVT four-cylinder engine is more fuel-efficient in comparison as well.
The ARAI claimed mileage of the five-speed manual petrol version is 21.56 kmpl (20.73 kmpl in outgoing model) while the four-speed automatic variants will return 20.28 kmpl (19.12 kmpl in outgoing model). This means the 2018 Ciaz reiterates its crown as the most economical sedan in its class. In contrary to reports, the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 turbocharged SHVS engine with 89 bhp and 200 Nm outputs will stay put in the range.
But, it will have its replacement by November or December this year with an all-new 1.5-litre diesel powertrain. There is a host of new feature additions available in the new Ciaz and is the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to have dual battery. The lead acid battery only powers the AC and headlamps, while the Li-ion battery supplies energy to engine electric parts like instrument cluster and music system.
Maruti Suzuki offers ESP, Hill Assist and Cruise Control as standard only in the automatic variants. The 16-inch alloy wheels are provided only in the top-end Alpha while Delta and Zeta get 15-inchers. Moreover, LED fog lamps will be sold in Zeta and Alpha variants and the integrated Daytime Running Lights will be present in Alpha and Zeta trims.
Another inclusion is the rear seat adjustable headrests on the Alpha grade. The exterior gains cosmetic changes and they are concentrated mainly on the front fascia. The new looking grille with increased chrome treatment is accompanied by slimmer headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, redesigned bumper, new LED tail lamp graphics, etc.
