2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will go on sale on January 23 with plenty of exterior and interior changes alongside the addition of 1.2-litre petrol engine

A few days ago, Maruti Suzuki officially announced that the upcoming Wagon R’s pre-bookings have begun across Arena dealerships in India. It is scheduled to go on sale in the domestic market on January 23 and can be pre-ordered for an initial token amount of Rs. 11,000. To make it easier, the bookings can also be made online at the brand’s website.

The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Baleno is based on the fifth generation Heartect platform with increased dimensions. It measures 19 mm longer and 125 mm wider than the outgoing model while the wheelbase is stretched by 35 mm. The proportional changes will ensure a roomier cabin than what the customers have experienced so far.

The India-specific exterior has taken an evolutionary approach and is more modern than ever before in the third generation. The front fascia has been upgraded with a prominent grille section and sleeker headlamps and fog lamp housing while the rear-end boasts vertically positioned tail lamps.

It is important to note that the overall tall hatch silhouette with upright pillars remain identical. Moreover, to spice things up, the largest automaker in the country has added a new powertrain to the lineup to allow more buying choices for the customers. It is the same 1.2-litre K Series petrol unit found in the Swift and Baleno producing 83 PS and 113 Nm.

The powertrain will be available in VXi and ZXi trims and can be had with either a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission. The long-serving 1.0-litre K10B petrol engine is not discontinued and will be offered only in the LXi, VXi and VXi AGS versions with 68 PS and 90 Nm outputs.

The images included here are of the entry-level 1.0L LXi variant and gets basic equipment including 13-inch wheels. The new generation Wagon R will come equipped with several standard features including ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), seatbelt reminder, speed warning system and driver side airbag.
