European market-spec Ford EcoSport will be produced in Romania’s Craiova plant; production shifted to increase profitability

Ford has shifted the production of the European market-spec 2018 EcoSport to Romania from India. From now on, the compact SUV meant for European market will be built in the Craiova plant in Romania instead of Ford’s Chennai plant. The move has been taken to reduce the shipping cost and increase profitability.

With the production shift to Romania, the brand has created 1,700 new jobs in the Craiova plant. This move will significantly reduce the waiting period for the car in European market and Ford has invested €200 million in the factory in order to increase the production capacity. The American auto major has already earned immense success with this car and the brand hopes to increase the sales number in Europe with localised production in the continent.

Apart from the compact SUV, its popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will also be produced there.

Meanwhile, Ford is gearing up to launch the refreshed EcoSport in Indian market this month. The SUV arrives with an updated and more stylish exterior along with several feature upgrades inside the cabin.
