Ducati has issued a recall program in USA for around 8,000 bikes over faulty Brembo brake issue. These bikes were built between 2015 and 2018. The affected Ducati models include 1299 Panigale, Panigale R, Monster 1200, Multistrada 1200, Multistrada 1260, XDiavel S and Scrambler Café Racer. Ducati will start fixing the problem in the affected bikes from 15th February 2018.

The premium bike manufacturer will notify the customers. Repairing and replacement of the Brembo brakes in affected bikes will be done free of cost. This recall program comes in line with another premium bike brand Aprilia that issued recall for the RSV4 and Tuono V4 1100 models in USA. Apart from these two brands, KTM and Triumph too are expected to issue recall soon as both these brands use Brembo brakes in their bikes.

Speaking about the issue, the piston in the master cylinder of the front brake is prone to crack when heavily used. frequent ABS intervention can also damage the brake. As the faulty brake gets PR16 piston made of plastic material named as Polyphenylene Sulphide, in case it cracks the bike faces complete front brake failure.

Ducati will replace the plastic made PR16 piston in the front brake with an aluminium made unit that will offer longevity even in heavy usage. While this recall program is for the bikes sold in US market, it is not sure if the Ducati models sold in India are also affected. We hope to learn more about it in coming days.

Meanwhile, Ducati is aiming to grab greater share in the Indian premium bike market with more new models here. One of them is going to be the Ducati Panigale V4 superbike that is powered by a MotoGP inspired 1,100 cc Stradale engine that is capable of churning out 214 hp of peak power. Expect this bike to arrive in Indian market sometime later this year and it will be priced at around Rs. 50 lakh upon arrival.
