Hyundai India officially introduced the much awaited new Santro in October and the company has already opened bookings ahead of the launch. The Santro price starts at Rs. 3.89 lakh for the base model and goes all the way up to Rs. 5.45 lakh (both prices, Ex-Showroom) for the top end model. The bookings for the new Santro crossed 40,000 within two months and it is selling in good numbers as well, last month over 9000 units of Santro sold

The Santro is currently not available with any discounts in most of the places but dealers in Delhi-NCR region are currently offering up to 40 per cent discount on own-damage Insurance and some cars including Santro. The dealers are offering this as part of the year-end benefits on this month delivery only. Hyundai might stop bookings for some time as they are not able to keep up with the demand of Santro and waiting period is increasing.

Hyundai positioned the Santro between Eon and Grand i10 as the hatchback is based on the K1 platform, which is derived from the BA platform of Grand i10. But the company has made some changes to make the hatchback stronger as the Santro need to pass the upcoming crash test along with new safety rules.

The Santro structure uses 63 per cent of high strength steel to make it more rigid and the engineers have also focused on making the cabin more silent than its rivals. The hatchback measures 3,610 mm length, 1,645 mm width and 1,560 mm height. The wheelbase of Santro is 2,400 mm and the company is not offering alloy wheels.

The top end variant of hatchback gets 14-inch steel tyres while lower spec variants get 13-inch tyres. Hyundai has also packed the Santro with lots of segment first features as it is always one of the strengths of the Korean manufacturer as it includes new touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents and reverses camera with parking sensors.

The company has focused on safety as the hatchback get dual airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiter, speed-sensing door lock and more. The Santro is powered by a 1.1 L petrol engine with 69 PS and 99 Nm, this engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and AMT transmission. The claimed efficiency for both manual and AMT is 20.3 km/l.
