Compact Hatchback Sales Analysis In FY2019: Maruti Swift Rules Ahead Of Grand i10

swift-1

Maruti Suzuki Swift registered nearly 2.24 lakh units in FY2019 with 27 per cent growth courtesy of the new generation model

If there is one segment that has constantly churned out volumes over the years, there is no overlooking the budget hatchback space. It is where Maruti Suzuki built its automotive business on and continues to lead the way with a variety of products across different price brackets mainly concentrating on the first-time buyers.

The Swift took the charge in the compact hatchback segment and does want to let it go. In the financial year 2018-19, a total of 2,23,924 units were sold at a massive growth of 27 per cent. It was mainly due to the arrival of the third generation model in February 2018 as the complete overhaul of exterior and interior combined with the lightweight heartect platform was well received.

The Wagon R has been a consistent seller for Maruti Suzuki ever since it broke into the market at the turn of the millennium. In FY2019, the tall hatch retailed 1,51,462 units but with 10 per cent YoY sales decrease. However, the deficit could be subdued in the current fiscal as the new-gen Wagon R is already up and running with a continuous increase in sales since it went on sale in January 2019.
