Citroen C5 Aircross is based on the EMP2 platform, which underpins DS7 Crossback and it is powered by 1.2 L turbocharged petrol, 1.5 L and 2.0 L diesel engines
Citroen C5 Aircross SUV has been spotted in India for the first time. The prototype of the C5 Aircross SUV was testing in Chennai. The company is also testing the DS7 Crossback in India to gather data. Groupe PSA and CK Birla Group inaugurated their first powertrain plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu last year.
The new Joint Venture plant was completed in less than two years. The initial manufacturing capacity of the plant is about 3,00,000 units per year for the transmission and 2,00,000 units per year for the BSVI engines. The engines currently manufactured at the plant are 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine and 2.0 L diesel engine at the plant, which is exported to global markets.
Groupe PSA hasn’t given any information about models, which are coming to the Indian market. The C5 Aircross made its global debut at the 2017 Auto Shanghai and it is based on the EMP2 platform, which already underpins DS7 Crossback, Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland X. One of the USP of C5 Aircross is its quirky design theme.
The front get split headlamps set up in which LED DRL is placed on top and LED headlamp is positioned below it. The side gets air bump on the door along with flared wheel arches and 19-inch alloy wheels (global model) gives a unique look for the SUV. The rear gets LED tail lamps along with a new bumper and dual exhausts.
The company has given black plastic cladding across the body and the model spotted in India is finished in white colour. The C5 Aircross measures 4,500 mm length, 1,840 mm width, 1,670 mm height and 2,730 mm wheelbase. Citroen has given 230 mm of ground clearance for the SUV and 580 L of boot space.
The outright boot capacity of C5 Aircross is 1,630 litres by folding down second and third row of seats. The company has focused a lot on comfort and the SUV come with Progressive Hydraulic Cushion System along with specially designed seats also. The interior design of C5 Aircross is new as it gives a premium feel with good quality materials.
The centre console is dominated by an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with climate control and a 12.3 inch fully digital instrument cluster. The SUV also comes with lots of features and the engine options include two diesel and one petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox.
