Chevrolet Cruze recalled in India as the affected models manufactured between 2009 and 2011 need fix to the ignition system

General Motors is recalling the Chevrolet Cruze sedan in India for a faulty ignition system. The American auto manufacturer has announced a voluntary recall program for the Cruze sedan which has been reported having a faulty ignition system leading to loss of ignition or stalled engines at lower speeds. The affected cars are reported to have been manufactured in between 2009-2011.

Incidentally, the ignition switch recall program of General Motors has been one of the biggest recall programs ever by the American automaker. The company recalled more than 30 million cars across the world to fix the problem, which also caused a total of 124 deaths and cost the company a whopping $900 million penalty in US alone. General Motors India however hasn’t cleared, whether the recall program for the Cruze is linked to the ignition switch recall or not.

Though the General Motors India says, the faulty ignition system doesn’t breach the safety of the car, but if the engine shuts down due to lower speed, the engine powered systems also shut down leaving the car and the occupants in deep trouble on the road. The stalled engine leads to losing control of power assisted steering wheel, losing control of the car finally, which can even put the occupant’s life in danger.

The General Motors India says, the recall is completely voluntary, and if any problems are found with the ignition system of the recalled Cruzes, they will be replaced free of cost. The next generation Chevrolet is expected to reach Indian market sometime in 2018 after a probable launch at 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo.
