Cars You Can Drive in Delhi During Odd-Even Days Without Penalty

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS: Odd-Even rule is certainly the hottest topic of discussion in Delhi now a days. In an attempt to reduce the alarmingly increasing pollution level Delhi government has come up with this idea which is practically effective with several pros and cons. While in the second phase of the Odd-Even scheme from 15th April to 30th April, all the cars come under the rule, there are several models which are actually exempted from this Odd-Even rule. Categorically, the emergency service vehicles like ambulances, fire engines, hospital vehicles, prison vehicles, law enforcement vehicles alongside VVIP’s cars, defence ministry cars, pilot cars, embassy cars, two wheelers, single women driven cars and parents driving cars to drop their children to schools are exempted from this rule. But if we see passenger cars with the perspective of models, certain models are also exempted from this rule. Well, of course those cars are environment friendly. To simplify, cars with electric powertrain, hybrid powertrains are exempted from the Odd-Even rule. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS was launched in September 2015, and it is powered by the smart Hybrid Vehicle technology developed by Suzuki. The Ciaz SHVS model is identical to the petrol powered Ciaz when it comes to design. The only difference you can spot is the SHVS badge. It is powered by a 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine which is combined with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and lithium ion batteries. The diesel engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission which churns out 90 PS peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque. It can reach 0 – 100 kmph in 13.2 seconds. The ISG works as a starter in the car, and it supplies power to the engine during start up. The lithium ion battery helps the car in starting the engine and also generates power during acceleration. It gets gear shift indicator facility also. This car delivers an impressive 28.09 kmpl of fuel economy. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga SHVS: Maruti Suzuki first introduced the SHVS technology in the Ciaz, and later the technology made its way into the Ertiga as well. The Ertiga SHVS looks similar to the normal variant and gets a SHVS badge as addition. It gets the same 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine under the hood, which gets combined with the ISG. The diesel engine gets mated to a five speed manual gearbox, and of produces 90 PS peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque just like the Ciaz hybrid. It delivers a fuel economy of 24.52 kmpl which is 18% higher than the previous model. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga hybrid gets Start/Stop system, gear shift indicator, torque assist and brake energy recuperation facility. Toyota Camry Hybrid: Toyota is one of the pioneer and world leader in the hybrid technology in automotive sector. Camry Hybrid is one of the important and forerunner in the hybrid segment from the automaker. Although Toyota Camry Hybrid is vehemently popular in China and US; but in India too the car has made an impact. The car gets a petrol plug in hybrid powertrain, which is environment friendly and fuel efficient as well. It gets power from a 2.5 litre four cylinder in-line petrol engine which is mated to an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). This engine produces 160 PS peak power and 213 Nm of peak toque. The petrol engine is combined with a 245 volt Nickel Hydride battery which can generate 45 PS peak power. The car comes with a total power output of 205 PS. It gets dual drive mode Eco and EV. Interestingly the car cruise on complete electric mode as well. Mahindra Reva e20: Mahindra Reva e20 might not be in the hot topic of discussions, but this is certainly a revolutionary car in Indian automotive scenario. It is the first India made fully electric car. The two door small hatchback can afford four adult occupants. It gets a 48 volt lithium ion battery as the source of power. Available in both manual and automatic variants, this small car can produce around 26 PS of peak power and 54 Nm of peak torque in the automatic variant, while the manual variant generates 20 PS of peak power and 54 Nm of peak torque. The automatic variant can cruise up to 120 kilometers with a fully charged battery, while the manual variant of Mahindra Reva e20 can run up to 80 kilometers with a fully charged battery at a top speed of 75 kmph. All CNG/LPG cars: All the CNG cars are exempted from the Odd-Even rule. This include Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 CNG, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 CNG, Maruti Suzuki Celerio Green, Maruti Suzuki Eeco Green, Tata Indigo eCS CNG, Hyundai Grand i10 LPG, Hyundai i10 LPG, Hyundai Xcent CNG, Hyundai Eon LPG and several other cars which are equipped with certified CNG kit.
