Yamaha has updated its Fascino and Ray ZR scooters with a new 125 cc BS6 engine, along with cosmetic changes and new features

Yamaha’s India division has today launched the 125 cc versions of the Fascino and Cygnus Ray ZR in the domestic market at a special event in Chennai. The brand new engine comes with silent engine start and the powertrain develops 30 per cent better performance compared to the 113 cc engine. The new Blue Core motor is also BSVI compliant.

A new Ice Fluo Vermillion colour scheme has been introduced on the MT15 as well while the BSVI compliant YZF-R15 has also graced the show floor. Apart from the engine upgrade, the scooters have also received some design changes. The new BS6-compliant 125 cc Blue Core engine comes with a fuel-injection system.

It accompanies the silent engine start feature and the maximum power of the new engine is rated 8.2 PS at 6,500 pm while the max torque output is 9.7 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The kerb weight of the Fascino and the Ray ZR has been reduced from 103 kg to 99 kg and the chassis has also been updated, which betters riding dynamics according to Yamaha and our short ride agrees with that.

Yamaha is offering the Fascino 125 with seven different paint schemes which include single-tone colours like Cyan Blue, Matte Blue, Metallic Black, Vivid Red and Yellow Cocktail; the last two out of which, are only reserved for the disc-brake variant of the Fascino 125. Yamaha has also introduced new dual-tone paint jobs, namely Dark Matte Blue and Suave Copper, which make the scooter look sportier.

On the other hand, the Cygnus Ray ZR can be had with Cyan Blue, Metallic Black, Dark Matte Blue, Deep Yellow Cocktail, Dark Matte Red, Racing Blue or Dark Green paint schemes. The BS6-compliant Yamaha Fascino 125 and the Ray ZR 125 will start reaching dealerships from January 2020 onwards.

The STD drum brake variant of the Fascino 125 has been priced at Rs 66,430 (ex-showroom), while the STD disc brake trim costs Rs 68,930 (ex-showroom). Whereas the DLX drum brake variant of the 2020 Fascino 125 has a starting price of Rs 67,430 (ex-showroom), it goes up to Rs 69,930 (ex-showroom) for the disc brake variant.

The claimed fuel economy of Fascino 125 stands at 58 kmpl and when compared to the 113 cc version, the new scooter retains its retro theme with sporty metallic colours and premium chrome accents. It comes equipped with 12-inch alloy wheels and unified braking system or CBS along with side-stand cut off switch, multi-function key, foldable hook, USB charging facility and so on.
